8. In what ways does Sinclair take capitalism to task in the process of Jurgis “buying” a house? Jurgis was forced to sign a contract with hidden fees and the entire system was unjust and the lawyer was corrupt. The contract did not allow Jurgis to buy the house at once, but it was set up so that if they missed a payment they would lose the house. The contract is set up to benefit the seller, and it was a way for him to make as much money as possible. Jurgis was the fourth person that made the initial payments but was not able to keep up with the monthly payments.
